Addiction / Recovery
No one grows up with the goal of struggling with alcohol or substance abuse, yet a significant portion of the American population will wrestle with this difficulty at some point in their life. The reason is that alcohol and substance abuse is a solution--it helps us in the short run to cope with any number of life problems such as loneliness, depression, anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, and more. Unfortunately, over the long haul, alcohol and substance abuse usually do little to alleviate the underlying problems while creating a whole new set of issues such as conflict with loved ones, alienation from peers, financial distress, and difficulty meeting responsibilities. Our work will focus on both addressing the underlying feelings that are triggering the abuse in the first place and also developing alternative, healthier ways of coping with those feelings. With time and commitment it is possible to re-seize control of your life and experience it richly.
