About Alex Afram, Ph.D.
We are social beings, and we all need help from others to pull through life’s challenges. Working with a therapist can be a powerful method of addressing those challenges. Unfortunately, many people never reach out due to stigma and a lack of clear information about what therapy entails. I am passionate about making help-seeking easier and have created a website, Therapy Clarity, to help people better understand how therapy can help them. It describes the therapeutic process, and also contains articles on topics such as the role of medication in treatment and how insurance works. I encourage you to explore it if you want to know more about how therapy can benefit you.
As a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington, DC, I have received rigorous training in a variety of treatment approaches, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapies. I received my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. After receiving my Ph.D. I completed a Postdoctoral Clinical Fellowship at The George Washington University Counseling Center. I am a member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists as well as the Washington School of Psychiatry.
